Tips On Clearing Snow From Your Solar Panels

All this snow has brought about discussion of clearing off roofs. This is extra important when your roof contains solar panels. We came across this article on NextStepLiving.com and thought it may be helpful to those with solar panels!

If you’re planning to clear your roof, please keep the following in mind:

  1. Safety first. Solar panels are slippery and are even slicker with ice and snow. If you want to remove the snow, we suggest hiring a licensed contractor.
  2. Don’t scratch your panels. Refrain from using any metal objects to clear the array as they will scratch the surface of the panels. A good rule of thumb is to use something that you might use on your car (such as a foam rake).
  3. Avoid typical melting agents. Salt and other melting agents may damage the array’s functionality.
