Residential Water Heaters Sizing Guide

When choosing a water heater it is important to consider the size of your family along with some other factors. You’ll want to consider if your family is low demand or high demand. Your family is considered high demand if:
  • There are more than two full baths in the home
  • If you find your family is running out of hot water too quickly
  • If you have an oversize jacuzzi bath or other large tub. As a rule of thumb, the water heater tank capacity should be 100% or more of the bathtub capacity (example: 75-gallon tub/80-gallon water heater).

The chart to below will help you determine your size requirements based on the number of people in your household.
