FAQs

Q: Why stainless steel?

A: Our products are made with high quality, durable stainless steel to resist corrosion and last a lifetime. Stainless steel tanks are lightweight, minimize scale build up, and eliminate the need for anode rods.

Q: Where are your products manufactured?

A: The majority of our Westinghouse Water Heating products are made in the USA.

Q: What makes your products highly efficient?

A: Our products are made with the highest quality materials and repeatedly tested to make sure that they are operating at the highest levels of energy efficiency. Heater owners with mild to low efficiency heating products, such as old gas furnaces, may only be utilizing as little as 50-60% of energy consumed, sending tons of cash straight through the chimney.  With a Westinghouse Water Heating system, 90% or more of every dollar spent to heat the home is being used. That is real savings.

Q: What does turndown ratio mean?

A: The ratio of a burner’s capacity at full fire to its lowest firing point before shut-down. If a 1 million BTU boiler can fire as low as 100,000 BTUs, it has a 10 to 1 turndown ratio. Appliances that have a wider turndown ratio are typically more efficient at meeting variable loads.

Q: What is a condensing unit?

A: Condensing is operating a combustion-type heat source so that the water vapor produced during combustion condenses on the internal surfaces of the heat exchanger.

Q: What is an AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating?

A: An efficiency rating expressed as a percentage, based on a federal government test procedure. The test includes combustion efficiency, flue loss, and flue loss in the burner off cycle. The data is calculated to simulate a complete heating season of operation. AFUE measurements are calculated for residential boilers only.

Q: What are the benefits of tankless water heaters?

A:  Tankless water heaters save you energy and money by only using water when you need it. They eliminate the extra cost of hot water storage. Our wall hung tankless units also have a smaller footprint, providing space savings. The Westinghouse Residential Tankless Water Heater has an ultra low NOx combustion system, providing additional environmental savings.
