A national leader. Here’s something to celebrate: Massachusetts is No. 1 in the country for attracting investments in clean energy technology, beating out states like California by far. The Bay State has also installed 1 gigawatt of renewable energy capacity, a huge milestone, while continuing to advance technologies for clean energy generation and storage.
A powerful economic force to be reckoned with. The state’s green sector continues to add more and more ‘energy’ to its economy by contributing more than $11 billion and representing a sizeable slice of the Gross State Product. Investment in clean energy now exceeds $549 million in Massachusetts, fueling small businesses and large companies alike.
Record-breaking job growth. Since MassCEC started tracking the state’s progress five years ago, Nearly 6,500 green employers have created more than 40,000 new jobs, increasing the state’s clean energy sector by a whopping 64%. This past year saw the highest percent in job growth with the clean energy industry now employing nearly 100,000 workers just in the Bay State. On top of all of that, these clean energy jobs tend to pay well with three-quarters of workers earning an average of $50,000 or more.
Needless to say, the progress in Massachusetts’ clean energy sector is clearly a win-win-win for the planet, the economy and those building their green-collar careers. Here’s to even more growth in 2016. ‘
